Govinda

Govinda’s studio is near Chabahil Chowk in the Kathmandu Valley on the road to Boudha.  Govinda uses reflective lettering for his signs, usually painted on a blue or skylike background.  He also paints images on Bodhi leaves, a Nepali tradition.   Usually it’s Buddha painted on the leaves of the tree under which he gained enlightenment, but Govinda presented me with a painting of Chopper the Australian Shepherd!   A lucky person bid and won that ‘Chopper on a Bodhi Leaf’ at the Venice Art Walk in May, 2009.

These photos don’t show the true color of the reflective writing.   It is bright red without the flash.
